Come this winter, another retail tenant will be cozying up next door to the new Trader Joe’s and Domicile complex in Northside. Urban Outfitters has confirmed its eighth Chicagoland-area location near the booming Broadway-Clark-Diversey intersection at 651 West Diversey Parkway, and is scheduled to go live on December 9.

Three years ago, local clothier Akira paved the way for a retail renaissance on this strip that used to house a Barnes and Noble and Pier 1 Imports, who Urban Outfitters will be replacing. Now, if only we can convince Target to open one of those small-scale urban stores in the old big box bookstore spot next door, there would be no reason to leave the hood for anything.—Chai Lee
