If you ever needed a reason to stop yourself from spending the entire night browsing through Gilt's online sales, here's a good one. Doctors have found that long-term exposure to the heat from a computer placed directly on your lap can cause "toasted skin syndrome", a permanent rash-like thigh discoloration. Found in patients who routinely rested their computers on their legs for hours each day, the splotchy condition is mostly harmless, but the constant exposure to a laptop's over-100 degree heat can cause permanent skin darkening.
