New discount retailer to enter Chicago marketNebraska-based discount retailer Gordmans has leased a 47,500 square foot retail space at Algonquin Commons, reports Crain's. The chain currently operates eight locations downstate—including in Springfield and Champaign—and plans on opening five new locations in the midwest in 2011. "There's a tremendous amount of vacant space produced by retailers that have gone out of business or are closing a considerable number of stores that's transpired over the last few years," said CEO Jeffrey Gordman. "As an example, Linens 'n Things, Circuit City, Sportsman's Warehouse, Steve & Barry's, Mervyn’s, and more have created lots of opportunities from a recycled real estate perspective."
