Target Now Doing Price Lock Trades With iPhones

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In advance of iPhone 4S availability tomorrow, your local Target store is now offering a price lock guarantee for iPhone trade-ins through its partnership with NextWorth, a leader in consumer electronics upgrades and trade-ins.

Customers can go to all Chicagoland Target locations to lock in a trade-in value for their old iPhone model and receive the quoted value when they pick up their new iPhone 4S.

This is the first time Target has locked in trade-in values prior to product availability. Trade-in values are based on used iPhones in good working order, rather than phones in excellent or flawless condition, so the vast majority of people will qualify unless you've got a Carrie Bradshaw phone. (ha.) Phone trade-in values range from $200 for a iPhone 4 to $101 for an 8GB 3GS.
