Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Each season more than 4,000 of the industry's most unique lines and top women's apparel brands show off their visions at StyleMax at the Merchandise Mart. For us, your loyal Racked reporters, its a chance to see what boutique owners think their customers are into, on a smaller level than flipping through a glossy. The past few seasons, it seems like some of the vendor classifications the StyleMax team has been putting out i.e. the 'made locally' and 'eco-friendly' categories shed light on where the market is going. Plus, they now offer an online preview. Could it be that StyleMax is getting more hip? The latest pull for the October 22-25th market has been that all the same lines are offered at The Javits and the like but at a fraction of the cost. "It's perfect for your bottom line". Touting brands like Adam Lippes, Design History, Wild Fox & Rebecca Minkoff, we'll see what boutique owners are getting into for Spring.
