This past Tuesday, Streeterville, River East, and The East Loop got a new option for grocery shopping. Mariano's Fresh Market, a baby brother of Roundy's from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Although this isn't the first great thing to come from Milwaukee, we can see several features to the new store that could make Dominicks on Illinois and Columbus and Fox & Obel on McClurg and Illinois and Bockwinkel's on Columbus check their pits for sweat stains.
For starters, the store is in that beautiful park behind the Aqua Building in close proximity to the North/East Loop and the Aon which would be the ideal setting to have a lunch on a sunny fall day. Secondly, this store is 50,000 square feet and plans to open more than 18 in Chicago in the next few years, which would increase brand recognition. And lastly, the new development which services more than 16 surrounding highrises. Oh, and they supposedly have more than 40 different types of hummus.
