Alexis Bittar Hosts Opening Party, Maybe Bringing More Stuffed Animals for Menagerie

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This coming Friday March, 25th, Alexis Bittar and style writer Rima Suqi will be co-hosting an opening party of Aexis Bittar's Chicago boutique and a book signing for Rima's new title, American Fashion Designers at Home.

When we stopped in the store earlier this week to say hello and ask about the party, we talked with the neighborhoodies and picked up on a rumor that Alexis may be bringing a new hybrid taxidermy animal with him this week in keeping with their rotation process of the stuffed animals. All of Alexis Bittar's stores' taxidermy is created by Frank J. Zitz and the Bucktown location is home to a baboon Macau monkey-like creature who has exceptional taste in wrist wear and jewels. We'll keep our eyes peeled for one of Zitz's new pieces.

Rima Suqi's new book documents the personal dwellings of the fashion arbiters that control our glitzy world of high end retail and give visual insight to the machine that propels fashion. Her book's title, Council of Fashion Designers at Home was released by Assouline luxury publishing house in early September of last year. This book offers an intimate look into the private quarters of more than 100 members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America—including Diane von Furstenburg, Cynthia Rowley, Kate Spade, Bob Mackie, Johnson Hartig, and Derek Lam.

Alexis's opening event is only attendable subject to availability by RSVP by emailing rsvp@alexisbittar.com
