Last Saturday night members of Chicago’s fashion scene came together at LaSalle Power Company to support finding a cure for breast cancer. Sports reporter Shae Peppler and Stilettos Boutique owner Alexandra Galanopoulos co-hosted the event in honor of their friend’s mother, who is currently fighting breast cancer. Galanopoulos’ Stilettos of Buffalo Grove Nika Le Butik of Park Ridge generously provided the shoes and clothing for the runway show. The walls of the third floor party room at LaSalle Power Company were bathed in deep hues of turquoise and fuchsia. A DJ spun current pop hits “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga and “Whip My Hair Back and Forth” by Willow Smith several times. Models strutted above the crowd and walked along top of the wooden bar, giving everyone a great view of each look.
The clothing modeled in the show was available for purchase. We saw several women scramble as soon as the Nika Le Butik racks were brought out. The most popular garments were gauzy tunics and dresses perfect for the recent spate of warm weather. Also on display was a collection of jewelry from Madonna and Child, a gothic-inspired line complete with rosary style necklaces. Raffle tickets were also sold for a number of different prizes, the most popular being Cubs tickets, Bulls tickets, and restaurant gift certificates. Carol McKinnan, Bridget White, and Jena Gambaccini were spotted at the party, as was venue owner David Mitria. All proceeds from the $25 admission tickets and the $5 raffle tickets is being donated to organizations that support breast cancer research. -Amy Creyer
