Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
With the paper world in a down spiral and the so many dirty things in Lakeview, the Borders Books and Music at the intersection of Clark, Diversey and Broadway has decided to sell all ridiculous items and cleaning supplies remaining in the store at discounted prices. As of today, with four remaining days open for business, all merchandise excluding store fixtures and select cleaning supplies is $2.99.
The second floor of the store is now closed and all items have been condensed to the first floor. Among the hot merchandise, we saw a few hard-to-find magazines, office printers, and many tables of industrial cleaning products. So if you're running low on Kimcare antibacterial soap, Ecolab toilet bowl cleanser, or de-odorizing essentials - we've got the deal of the year with each bottle of industrial strength cleanser averaging at about five dollars.
The second best best deal of the year goes to a Mao Zedong-esque cat from a Richard Scarry children's book titled Bizzytown. The cat's name is Huckle Cat and looks to be wearing an americanized style of lederhosen.
