This afternoon police are investigating an armed robbery that happened this morning at Diadem Jewelers on Sherman Avenue in Evanston.
A 250 pound African-American male entered the store and started brandishing a handgun and told the sales clerk his intention to rob the store. The man then used flexible plastic bindings to tie the victim’s hands together.
According to police, a passer-by looked into the store and noticed the sales clerk, who hands were still bound. The robber was wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, scarf, black leather coat, dark jeans, dark gym shoes and used a gym bag and a backpack to stash the jewelry.
No additional information was available due to Commander Tom Guenther's off-site presence at an unrelated rally against violence. The rally, organized by Moms: Save Our Sons (Moms S.O.S.) is in reaction to the recent wave of gun violence.
