Last week, Cop.Copine US owners were in town to begin moving into their newest American location behind their first store in San Francisco's Union Square. This Chicago flagship is in the process of inhabiting the vacant J. Mendel space across the street from Bloomingdale's on North Michigan Avenue.
Cop.Copine is a Parisian women's clothing company who is known for their relevant styles at accessible price points. The company has stores in over nineteen countries around the world and offers bold prints original cuts, and occasional asymmetry. The clothing is casual while still paying attention to a feminine shape.
Checking in on their progress, they tell us they've wanted to open in Chicago for quite some time and have been working on securing this particular space since January 5th earlier this year. Passing behind the enormous curtain shielding the window shoppers from viewing the work-in-progress, we are immediately greeted by the manager, and owners. Boxes in the store are stacked high and workers are unpacking and setting up some product and the faculties of the store. Being guided through the unpacked boxes, we get a showing of the current collection of transitional pieces which feature a lot of silk, hidden detail, and layering printed fabrics.
Then they pull out the show stopper - shoulder jewelry. Since its debut on the Paris runways, apparently Cop.Copine has been selling so much of it that the artisan who makes the shoulder jewelry in Paris is having a difficult time keeping up with demand. As of this weekend, there were only two pieces in the store and both were priced around $200.
The staff has been working through the weekend, receiving late night boxes of clothes fresh from France, and plans to open shop as soon as possible.
