Topshop Watch 2011: Workers Moving Escalators, Getting Rid of Atrium

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In the second major development of our Topshop Watch 2011, we pass by the storefront during demolition to find the escalators of the previous Borders Books and Music store have been removed. Our sources tell us that the large atrium where the escalators were, which is now even bigger will be entirely closed on every floor making each level more intimate and have more useable floor space. The new set of escalators will now be moved to the west side of the space along the wall where Borders' travel books section was. The ceilings and floors for the new banks of escalators have not yet begun to be altered as of today.
