Wal-Mart Stores Inc. signed a long-term lease for a Wal-Mart Express store in River North at 225 W. Chicago Ave., underneath a Brown Line stop at the corner of Chicago and Franklin avenues.
The deal for the 14,300-square-foot property, formerly a Pearl art supplies store, drew some protest from local Alderman Brendan Reilly after Crain's first reported the lease was in the works, though Mr. Reilly acknowledged the deal didn't require a zoning change or other such city approvals.
