Transistor is Moving Out of Andersonville, Business is Booming

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Recently we learned that Andersonville's beloved electronics, music, arts boutique, Transistor will be moving out of their current storefront on Clark just south of Foster. Shaken by the news, we immediately went over to offer our regrets about the move.

While we were in the shop, Owners Andy and Rani were being bombarded by customers bearing Groupons and multitasking shifting tunes and tracks and setting up for one of their in-house art classes.

Business is booming for the couple, so why are they moving out and where are they moving to? Well, since opening in 2009, rent and land lords in A-ville have become more cumbersome than anticipated, plus they get to live nearby their new location.

An easy transition for Transistor, Andy and Rani have just signed onto the space that previously housed Deadwax Records on Lincoln Avenue between Grace and Bernice. Andy says the transition should be complete by August 15th.
