Nan Patterson, pictured here, was a Florodora girl and the mistress of Caesar Young, a wealthy English gambler. In 1904, just before he was to board a ship to Europe with his wife, he ended up shot in a hansom cab, with Nan at his side. She claimed he committed suicide after she told him she was leaving him. The police said the angle of the shot indicated murder. She stood trial twice, but was never convicted. This was just one of many lurid scandals involving the Florodora girls. In their honor (and dishonor), twice a year Florodora and Florodora Shoes in the Loop summon their spirit and put everything on sale at scandalously low prices. The sale is on now through Saturday.
