Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

If you're like us, it's probably going to be one of those days that you never forget and one of those stories that you'll tell your grandchildren. Millions of citizens standing in Wrigley Square all simultaneously tying bow ties at the same time.

National Bow Tie Day is August 28th and Chicago-based online tie manufacturer The Tie Bar will be hosting the Guinness Book recognized event along with many, many local and presumably international bow tie aficionados. The first 500 guests to register will receive a complimentary bow tie and a $15 donation will be made in their honor to event partner, Goodwill.

Registration opens at 1:00 PM, a short refresher on how to tie the bow tie will be guided at 2:00 PM and immediately following at 2:30 the record shall hereby be broken. Judges will be on hand to authenticate the record.
