Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
With fall on the horizon we're leaning back toward wearing items a little sexier, lush and more luxe. While seeking the best style advice to satisfy the fetishization of our primal instincts, Chicago Magazine has helped us by pulling together six of the best snakeskin items we can buy at the power players in the Gold Coast and Streeterville. With taste in mind, Chicago Mag has picked stores like FerraMichael Kors, Bottega Veneta, and Tod's as well as She Boutique in Highland Park.
If you wanted the raw stuff however, we recently were connected to a company in Peoria called Rustys Balls, here you can buy live snakes - specifically pythons in any size, color, or "morph". The pythons this company sells can range from as little as $20 and skyrocket to over $20,000 depending on the size and severity of the "morph".
For those of you who aren't sure about Chicago Magazine's amazing accessory suggestions or slithery show stoppers from Rustys Balls and you'd prefer to have a snake skin as a design element in your living space, Room Service on the North Side is selling an eight foot African boa constrictor pelt. Although we can envision it integrated into a space a few different ways, the showroom is suggesting they're using as a table runner.
