Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
We can hardly wait - Uniqlo is opening three major stores next month, all of which will sell the company's new product offerings focusing on quality and functionality. The consumer-centric brand is opening these three stores; on Regent Street in London, on West 34th Street and another on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. After these openings Uniqlo will most likely open smaller 22,000 square foot stores in suburban areas of London, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
As WWD reports, the new New York Flagship, the one on Fifth Avenue was designed Wonderwall, which will look sleek, modern design and be really tech-y. There are more than 300 LED screens hanging all over the interior of the store.
What makes us think Chicago is next on the docket is well, first and foremost, they said they wanted to open here, and secondly the concepts of their product and interior of the New York Flagship scream Chicago. Sleek, future-forward architecture and quality and functionality in clothing.
Not that we're starting any rumors, but we can think of one space on Michigan Avenue at Chestnut that we've seen drawings for that would be perfect for the Japanese brand. In the meantime, we'll just have to look forward to the newest designer collaboration with Orla Kiely.
