Gucci Creative Director, Frida Giannini, c/o Madonna awarded Jessica Chastain the 2011 Gucci Award for Women in Cinema. The new annual award recognizes an outstanding artistic achievement by a woman in filmmaking. Chastain, who received the Award for her extraordinary performance in Terrence Malick’s film The Tree of Life, was among five nominees, including cinematographer Caroline Champetier, screenwriter Federica Pontremoli, producer Nansun Shi and director Athina Rachel Tsangari. In celebration of the Award, Gucci will make a grant of US$25,000 to the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at NYU's Tisch in Jessica's name. [World of Gucci]
