New Life for Old Borders: Akira Opening Flagship in Hyde Park With a Lot More Shoes

New, 3 comments

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Akira is moving south to Hyde Park and will be occupying the now vacant Borders Books & Music Location. The 25,000 square feet building was bought by University of Chicago shortly after the bookstore flopped and was divided into several retail spaces.

We now know they'll be taking a large portion of the first floor and will be ready to open in the second half of the year. This store will hold flagship status which will be the first Akira store where clothing and footwear will be combined and the selection of footwear will be far more significant. Hear that? Lots of shoes.
