Renegade Handmade Closes after 4 Years of Growth

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Recently the Renegade Craft Fair team sent out an email asking their fans which emails they'd like to subscribe to Chicago, Brooklyn, London, Austin... etc. better allowing Renegade to provide relevant information to their subscribers. Then yesterday afternoon they sent out an email saying after 4+ years they were closing the Renegade Handmade shop on Jan 31st.

The fairs which now occur internationally have become so successful they have no more time for a permanent storefront. However, they said there will be highly curated pop-up shops and "out of this world workshops". In the meantime, everything in the store including the fixturing is on sale.

Hello to our lovely customers and friends,

We at Renegade Handmade have some good news, and some sad news to share with you in 2012:

The Renegade Handmade staff is sad to announce that the store isclosing its doors for good on January 31st. We opened the shop in 2007 as an extension of the Renegade Craft Fair, which at the time happened three times per year in two cities. Since then, the fair has grown exponentially and we are now planning eleven fairs in six cities, including one fair overseas. Unfortunately, being away from the store so much of the year (traveling with the fairs, scouting venues, etc.) we had to make a hard decision.

The good news is, the ever expanding Renegade Craft Fair will be better than EVER! Expect lots of fun projects in the future from the Renegade Gang! Think highly curated pop-up shops and out of this world workshops!

Renegade Handmade has been a huge success as a brick + mortar store, thanks to our incredibly supportive artists, customers and fans. You all made this shop amazing, and we can't thank you enough for your support. Please continue to support these amazing artists (and Renegade) by spreading the word about the Renegade Craft Fairs inAustin, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and London, UK.

Renegade Handmade will be having a huge in-store and online salethis month so please stop by and say hello/goodbye one last time (or a bunch of times!) We also have a bunch of store fixtures and supplies, including handmade t-shirt racks, card racks, large tables, cool vintage display items, ETC. ETC. If you know anyone that's opening a store, or if you're a store owner yourself please consider stopping by to check out our displays/supplies.

Again, we have a ton of amazing handmade goods left in the shop! Stop by soon, before it's all gone!

Thank you again for your support, we love all of you!

The Renegade Handmade Gang,
Sue, Mat, Madelon, Kevin, Meg, Jackie, Sarah and Justin
