Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In a former strip club on the southwest side of Manhattan, hundreds of shopping enthusiasts, gold lamé-clad super heroes of retail and one long-haired chihuahua gathered to fête the winners of The Racked Awards from across the nation. Here, at this big city celeb hotspot, The Westway, we greeted many guests from Chicago including business owners, bloggers and industry insiders as well as guests and winners from our other Racked titles, NY, LA and National.
Though the drinks are probably fogging our recollection of the evening, we saw men in dresses, risqué tattooed dancers in pink panties and the infamous DJ Tamara Sky. While taking shots of spinach soup and filling our tumtums with bite size tomato cakes with smoked feta by DirtCandy, we mingle over to the stage where Valentino once sang "I Did It My Way", which on this very special night is where the coveted Golden Turbans sat, perched upon a corrugated accordion of glowing paper.
Guests mingled and got schnockered, while occasionally stopping to Instagram, tagging their photos #RackedAwards to get a Polaroid-like digital print-out from a photo kiosk. On the stage in an adjoining room where the bar was, a trunk of superhero costumes was overflowing with options to play dress-up in, and pose for a on-site flip book making machine.
Look for a full list of winners on Racked National or find the nominees and winners, the ones you know and love on Racked Chicago. There's a big album of photos here (up top) so click-away, and enjoy the turban revelry.
