Hailing from the echelon of hinterlands on the North Shore, Katie and Julie Gagnon are about to make a new splash in the Gold Coast--only without water. On October 25, the mother/daughter duo from Winnetka will officially open Blow By Blow, the newest beauty business on Oak Street.
After a childhood in Chicago, Julie saw her daughter off to New York to work in PR, while she went into the commercial real estate business in Brentwood, LA. Both, on separate coasts found solace in their manes--at Drybar. The concept, much like what the crew behind Blowtique saw was absent in Chicago. So they decided to open a salon in a major commercial district, central to the action. Now, the salon has soft-opened and will begin to cater to the trendy set in the River North, the shoppers along Oak and Rush and the society in the northern Gold Coast. When we ask the vibrant Katie about why she chose to open a salon steps away from one of the windiest street corners in North America, she cites the location is the best feature of the salon, being so close to everything.
Not even open for a week, Julie and Katie anticipate the loose wave be the most popular mentioning a bridal party they're styling this weekend and the top knot, up do crown and french braids be popular going into Fall. The two top stylists, Jaylene Stephens and Zackery Bowen (just published in Vogue India) are keeping you in the game by pouring cocktails (no matter what time of day) and playing chick flicks on the TV's. The retail section is stocked with Kevin Murphy and the doors are open from here on out Monday through Wednesday 10AM-7PM; Thursday through Saturday 9AM-9PM and Sunday 10AM-4PM.
