Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Chicago's River North furniture and design district rivals those of Miami, LA and New York. We have come to be known for our high end furniture offerings and our famed architecture as much as we are for our food, and this fall brings major design events our way. You definitely shouldn't miss out on any of the below.
STREETERVILLE - The French brothers and design duo, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, were in town last week to christen their new exhibit at the MCA, Bivouac. They're most famous for their wall art/installation Clouds, as well as their collabs with uber fab furniture houses like Ligne Roset. It's the MCA's very first furniture exhibition, and they're thinking about continuing the trend. If you haven't been to Bivouac yet, we suggest you do so. It takes up two gallery halls, practically the entire fourth floor, of the MCA, and showcases wall hangings and installations, as well as furniture, flatware and kitchenware. You have until Jan. 20, 2013 to check it out.
RIVER NORTH - WPA showroom in River North is one of our favorite destinations for high end Italian furnishings. They sell what we like to call The Holy Trinity of Italian furniture, Cappellini, Cassina and Poltrona Frau, all of which are a part of the Poltrona Frau Group. Of course, with the help and massive offerings of Salon de Mobile in Milan every April, there's always something new to view at WPA. We're very excited that the newest orders from Milan are now in store and available for purchase. Yes, we know they're expensive, but they'll make our house look so pretty. We're especially looking forward to checking out (and possibly buying) the John John bed and Bosforo sofa.
WEST TOWN - Scandinavian design has always been light years ahead of everyone else. Our homes are filled with Eero Aarnio, Eero Saarinen and Verner Panton, and we just can't get enough. Wright Auction House has been the enabler of our habit, and the house feeds our soul with these and other fabulous Scandinavian designers with their frequent Scandinavian design auctions. The next auction begins on Nov. 15, but there is a weeklong preview, Nov. 8-14, to peruse and choose the items that suits your fancy the most.
