Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In the spirit of fun and games for Halloween, our own wise soul, Robin Clement looks for vintage inspiration at CAZA in Wicker Park.
We would love to be transported to the past, to sing with The Andrews Sisters, go on a Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn, or get behind the lens with Twiggy. Though we can't provide a time machine (sorry!), we can recommend where to buy retro threads, perfect for a Halloween costume that can be re-accessorized with a modern twist long after All Hallow's Eve.
We headed to Wicker Park vintage boutique CAZA, formerly Lenny & Me, to conjure up some looks from the 40's, 50's and 60's. A little back-story on CAZA, which opened this July: Lenny & Me hired new staff; renovated the space for a more approachable environment; edited the collection to include only their best vintage and modern clothes, accessories and refurbished antiques; and changed the name to the Spanish word for "hunt," as the merchandise has been "hunted, gathered and curated."
The staff was more than inviting and helped us try on our vintage finds. Haza CAZA! Remember: It's all about accessorizing and getting your hair did to complete the look.
To wear post-Halloween, we recommend mixing and matching these past era fashions with contemporary clothes, belts, jewelry and shoes.
