Today 'round noon, while State Street was abustle with people shopping Margiela, on the northerly end of State, the new Old Navy opened and was ushering customers around the store. Upon our arrival, the store had been open just shy of 15 minutes and it was already chaos.
The new store has features that the old store didn't-including "Quick Change" curtains for customers on the go, redesigned fitting rooms and "Fast Lanes" at the cash wrap. The design of the space (especially the top floor) embraces and highlights the original structural steel and concrete elements of the building while still feeling modern.
Yes, lots of new features in the new Old Navy, but the one thing that was missing on opening day, was The State Street Preacher (AKA) Samuel Chambers.
Pretty sure Samuel won't show for the Grand Opening Events but we'll see. From what we hear, the weekend is going to be fun-filled and packed with stunts which would appeal to any town crier or village person.
Today, there's a DJ and a photo booth, a live mannequin fashion show and lots of construction workers near the entrance trying to put the facade back together.
Friday, celebrating the art scene of Chicago – they've created a partnership with After School Matters and the Chicago Public Schools Gallery 37 Advanced Art Education Programs who will showcase their amazing talents. Some of the activities include: a pop-up After School Matters Retail Store Art Gallery, and musical, vocal and dance performances by teens.
