Floyd's Shelling Out Eggnog Shots for Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Nearly landmarked Floyd's Pub is throwing their annual ugly Christmas sweater party tonight and they want to make sure you're invited. At 7PM, one of the best dives in the city will begin to be flooded with ancient yarn, plastic beads and tinsel in an orgy of ugly. In efforts to make it a smoother time for all, Floyd's, in addition to having a free photobooth is doing specials on Christmas beers, shots of holiday bourbon, glogg, hot cider and egg nog. The person who is, in fact, the ugliest (judged by participants) will receive $100. Second place gets $20, a free shot and a "smack on the ass". Don't have an ugly or a so-bad-its-good holiday sweater?

Here are our suggestions: Kokorokoko and Rad Vintage are great if you want to wear something not so "Holiday" but just cool and seasonal but still not current. Unique Thrift in Uptown and Village Discount on Kedzie have a ton of holiday stock and sparkly and will run you less than $10 per sweater. In Lakeview, Ragstock of course every year has a dedicated section for sweaters and Shangri-La on Roscoe in Roscoe Village always has seasonal and holiday items. And in a last ditch effort, you could always buy something rather hideous at Marshalls which is close to Trader Joe's who sells macaroni which is close to Walgreens where you can find Elmer's glue and glitter. Actually, the latter may be the best option.
