How cool is this: Just like she planned, Janel went to Open Books in River North and spent her afternoon. Although the Open Books store is a special place each and every day, on some occasions it becomes magical. This was the case for Janel, whose boyfriend (now fiancee) opted to begin his marriage proposal scavenger hunt in the store.
Here’s a shot of Janel working through her first clue. >>>

Janel and her friend Mckenzie were browsing the Chuck Klosterman for $1 when she hears a man ask “Are you Janel?” She answers with affirmation and is handed a white envelope "with tell-tale handwriting" sat down on the stairs in the store trying to scan a QR for her first clue.

She begins her hunt and is led from the bookstore around the city, receiving clues the whole time until she and Mckenzie finally end up at the Shedd Aquarium where she finds Nick waiting for her with a ring. Read the play-by-play here.

The story of Janel and Nick is a happy tear-jerker and it may have just started a trend. Last week a gentleman by the name of Justin, through a similar proposal tactic, cuddled up with his [now] fiancee, Alexa in the Firefly reading lounge in the back of the store to pop the question.
