Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
The next fashion show you attend at The 900 Shops or any other venue, your credit card may be swiped at the door via a rectangular dongle (yup, that's a word) at the base of an iPad. EventBrite is joining Square and Paypal as providers of mobile payment hardware and services. EventBrite is a west coast start-up providing ticketing services via the web for shows, events, and hot-spots. Announced just last week, the At The Door Card Reader, enables venues to process last minute tickets sales. The advantage over competitors? Venues can collect data on patrons. This means you'll be getting more event notices, coupons, and offers in your inbox. Convenience comes at a cost.
