Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Sometimes computers hate us and they want us to burn into a fiery supernova of ones and zeros and never ever come back online. This was the case with Jimmy Choo, who for three weeks, not just the store on Oak Street, the entire company was offline and not able to send emails. Stores on the East Coast, West Coast and the Midwest all regained email access at slightly different times- some late last week, some a few days previous as earliest report of the email system going kaput was March 21. A woman we spoke with in the Costa Mesa store highly doubts the outage is due to the server being confiscated because an employee was looking at "shoe porn" at work.
