This morning was the beginning of the trial for William Balfour who is accused of murdering Jennifer Hudson's mother in the home where the singer grew up, shooting her brother twice in the head as he lay in bed and kidnapping her 7-year-old nephew only to shoot him in the head in the back seat of a car later that day.

The painful journey of exploring the possibility of this young man's guilt began with opening statements and witness testimony - including a soft spoken Jennifer Hudson herself.
