Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Construction has begun on the new AT&T store inside the now vacated Ann Taylor (before that Viacom) corner storefront on Erie and Michigan. From what we understand by all the dust and a few visuals on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, the store will be a concept that builds on current stores' designs - only much, much larger and with more interactivity. As we're told by a worker involved in the project, it will "blow the [nearby] Apple Store out of the water". There will be higher ceilings, lots of glass and glowing orange accents.
