When you, your friends and most of your family live, work within the city's confines, it's nice to have them step back from the noise and experience a big day without any other distractions. So you may be thinking that an outdoor wedding... maybe at a barn would be ideal. Well, grab the groom and call a cab for the long haul to the North Shore. We're bringing to light to two of the best Barn Wedding Venues mere miles away to let you and your escape the bustle of the city... at least for a day.

The Byron Colby Barn, in Grayslake sits modestly on quiet pastures since 1885. Being recently restored in 1996, it has become one of the new Chicago venues. It's part of the Prairie Crossing community which boasts an echelon organic market, charter school, 5,800 prairie reserve and horse stables with pastures.

It's a kind of timeless elegance place where Up to 220 guests can can meander in the fresh air throughout the property. If weather permits, guests can enjoy the adjacent brick courtyard with tables and benches rather than only visiting the gazebo for the ceremony and the barn for the reception.

[The Wagner Farm in Glenview]

In in the middle of Glenview, the last active farm (yup, cows and all) on the North Shore is now owned and operated by the Glenview Park District for educational purposes. On a picturesque 18.6 acres the grounds include the newly restored Heritage Center Barn

Taking its name from the old times, The Wagner Farm is far enough away from the city lights to actually see the moon and take your heels off to walk in the grass. Chicagoland event company, Catered by Design has dressed it up and dress it down to meet wedding planner's specs and can organize the suburban details of production including custom china, boutique linens, and florals.
