Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Racked Chicago's search for Chicago's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile sixteen smoking candidates who work at local gyms and studios. (Not only do they look hot in spandex, but if you take their classes, you might someday look nearly as good.) Then, once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite. Let the games begin!

[Joey Thurman, Morph Personal Training]

Joey Thurman has been an athlete since he could walk. Although he participated in a variety of competitive sports, soccer and ice hockey were his main focus. At the high school level he earned varsity status and received many awards in both sports. Joey played one year of Junior College Hockey where he was selected as an All-American, then transferred to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) where he continued his ice hockey career. During his time at SIUE, Joey was selected defensive player of the year, team captain, and helped SIUE win four consecutive division championships. He continues to play ice hockey and accepted the opportunity to showcase his skills at the semi-professional level earlier this year. Upon completion of a bachelor?s degree in liberal studies from SIUE, this superstar then obtained a training certification from the American Council of Exercise (ACE) in 2006. Joey?s training experience includes individual and group sessions, as well as coordinating corporate health and fitness seminars.

He now works with a variety of individuals with various goals including weight loss, muscle gain, and (ahem) fitting into the wedding gown of your dreams, and (for a little further down the road) staying ?t during pregnancy. He prides himself on teaching his clients that in order to maintain a physical change, an inner self discovery must be made.
