What to Wear to City Winery, Opening Tonight!

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We know you're like us in that you love wine and shoes. You live for it. Well, if you're also like us, you're an aspiring winemaker, and the thought of cavorting through barrel rooms and fermentation tanks with a buff, young, purple-splattered winemaker sends tingles down your spine, then we know you need a hot outfit for the opening of City Winery, Chicago's first custom crush facility, opening to the public tonight.

When we think of wine country we think of Napa Valley laid back chic--snazzy jeans, chic shades, an awesome straw hat and glass in hand. But this is Chicago. That wardrobe is NOT going to fly because not only is City Winery a winemaking facility, but it will act as a music venue for some big time names like Esperanza Spalding, Suzanne Vega and Matthew Sweet, along with being a fancy schmancy restaurant venue which will play host to intimate wine dinners. So you've got to wear something versatile that can straddle (no pun intended) both kinds of events, like the perfect little black dress can.

Here are our ideal picks, but something akin to the below will do:

Ted Baker peplum sheath dress, but in black --$295
Printed Diane von Furstenberg pants, $92
Striped maxi dress in fall colors, $88, with a big, boxy sweater on top $295
And of course, you have to have a fab shoe to top it all off, $350
