Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
You know what they say: private previews and opening receptions make art grow fonder...We're not ones to brag, but working for Racked, we see a lot of cool previews before everyone else. We sometimes feel bad that others aren't able to partake (um, no we're not), but the MCA wants to extend VIP access to art lovers citywide. On September 19, they are hosting a benefit for the opening of EXPO Chicago, a vernissage of sorts, in which all proceeds go to the museum. The definition of vernissage, according to the MCA invite is "a French term meaning "varnishing day" that suggests the energy and excitement surrounding the opening of an art exhibition."
The Vernissage will have two levels of participation: one as a Patron, and the other as just a VIP attendee. The ticket prices are $400 and $100 respectively. As a Patron, your ticket includes open bar, VIP EXPO pass, valet parking, and walk around chef stations at your disposal. You will also have early access to see the wares of the 100-plus galleries showcasing at EXPO. As a normal attendee, you will be able to walk EXPO two hours later than the Patrons, as well as consume beer, wine and canapes. There will also be entertainment to set the tone for the evening. Being art fanatics, we definitely know where we'll be come mid-September.
