Gold Coast Legend, Europa Books Shuttering Storefront

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Europa Books, on State Street just North of Chicago Ave, after twenty years in business is closing its doors. Known for their outstanding selection of foreign periodicals including everything from obscure Middle Eastern newspapers to Milanese startup fashion magazines, the store will be operating online as of September 1. Books in the brick & mortar location are 50% off and magazines are 20% off.

The store has said they're actively exploring the possibility of re-opening in a new location but has no concrete plans to do so at this time. In the meantime, customers looking for French Childtren's books, food maps to Marrakech, or that post card you can't find elsewhere can visit the Schoenhof's warehouse in Skokie at 8124 Ridgeway Ave.
