Rush Street ALDO is Out Come October

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In a move sooner than expected, we're now hearing reports that ALDO on Rush across from Oliver Peoples is closing before Halloween. We're unclear if there will be a blowout clearance sale or if the remaining stock will be transferred to nearby ALDO stores or if they are actually looking for a new storefront. What we are clear about though is what is happening with the space.

In April 2011 when we first heard that neighboring Starbucks was moving into a new building up the street next to Prada, our suspicions were that the two retail spaces (ALDO and Starbucks) would be joined once again, resuming the footprint of the former glory days when Hear Music was synonymous with Starbucks. When we found out that Madewell was taking over the Starbucks space and how many square feet the store would be, that number didn't include the square footage of ALDO, meaning the storefronts will remain separate.
