Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Listen up, soon-to-be-brides. You're going to want to hear this. Glamour Closet in River North will offer its once yearly bridal sample sale this weekend; so while your husbands-to-be are at the Ryder Cup and your foodie friends are stuffing their faces at Chicago Gourmet, you can be in line to pick out the gown that will frame the happiest day of your life. Gowns will be up to 80% off, ranging in price from $499 to $1499, while the retail values go up to $10K! Wouldn't it be a huge coup to wear a $10,000 wedding gown knowing that you only paid $1500?! And your S.O. would be so proud of your money saving prowess.
Glamour Closet is a brick and mortar store with three locations, one of which stands in our fair city, and offers designer samples and overstock inventory of some of the world's most luxe wedding dress designers, including celeb faves Monique Lhuillier, Amsale and Vera Wang. The store is stocked with bridal consultants who are experts on everything from fit to best dresses for your body type. This store could be appointment only with a one-year waiting list, but they decided to take the pretense out of the boutique wedding store experience and eschew the appointment booking--just walk in and have at it. The consultants are there for a one-on-one consult with you. What's even better about this boutique is the fact that there's a charitable aspect. (If you know anything about us at Racked, you know we it when philanthropy and fashion intersect). A portion of Glamour Closet's proceeds go toward foundations dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. You all can now "awww" in unison.
A few things to remember about this weekend's sale...
1. It is only for two days, Saturday, September 29 (9-5pm) and Sunday, September 30 (10am-3pm), so GET IN LINE EARLY.
2. You can bring two guests with you to try.
3. You will only have 1 hour to get in, try on, and get out.
4. The store will be an "open dressing room," so dress accordingly (and appropriately).
5. Everything sold "as is."
6. Cash and credit only. NO CHECKS ALLOWED.
7. Be civil and HAVE FUN!
