Via the Racked tipline today we learned that Best Buy at Old Orchard will be permanently closing on February 3 at 7PM. This store is one of Best Buy's larger "Community Stores" which historically have not made as much money as overtly larger, more efficiently-run stores like South Loop and Lincoln Park. Yet, the Community Stores like Old Orchard play off the trend of an uptick in sales of mobile and handheld devices like tablets, phones and e-readers. What this means right now is that the non-trend items like large TVs, movies, games are 10% off with larger discounts expected as they near the final day. All this news comes after 6 other underperforming Best Buys closed last spring/summer which in essence makes the company more nimble so as not to reinvent the unfortunate fate of Circuit City.
