Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Robert Rodriguez's new holiday collection is available now in the newly renovated CUSP section of Neiman Marcus. With leather, distressed sequins, and up-to-there styles, the edgy collection is less spiked eggnog than straight-up holiday shots. Let's just say we'd love to go a holiday bash hosted by Rodriguez.
We caught up with the constantly traveling designer over email to get some tips on dressing up in the Windy City; read what he had to say below. And above, check out the collection that would make Rudolph blush.
Which of your holiday pieces are you most excited to show Chicago women in particular?
I imagine everyone wearing our gold, distressed sequin top with stretch leather leggings and a fur coat.
What's your overall impression of Chicago style?
It's a cool, edgy, eclectic mix of streetwear style.
It's your label's 10th anniversary—congrats! What is the first time your remember feeling like you wanted to design this for a living?
When I was 12 years old. My mother gave me a Christian Dior book and from that moment I realized I wanted to become a designer.
You design womenswear, so what menswear designers do you wear yourself?
I enjoy wearing a mix of young unknown designers, and always look for a certain understated, casual style.
