Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
On Saturday, Edith Hart will host a Bella Colletta trunk show from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. And if you need some icing for those holiday frocks, we suggest you swing by.
With layered pieces that designer Christine Bock describes as "rock-chic" with a touch of softness, these styles are one of a kind and made right here in Chicago. Get to know Bock, below, and then load up on her accessories this Saturday. (That's right: load up. We always approve heavy doses of shopping local.)
How would you describe your collection to a Bella Colletta newbie?
Bella Colletta features one-off, handcrafted designs that blend the organic qualities of natural stones and the edge of raw metals. Our aesthetic is rock-chic and glam-punk, but the vintage remakes bring a softer, classic aspect to the line.
What do you love about running a Chicago business?
I love having my business in Chicago because this is my home town and I couldn't imagine living or working anywhere else. I also love the support young, up-and-coming artists get here. I have clients that get stopped on the street wearing one of my [one-of-a-kind] pieces, and when someone asks where they can get their jewelry they pass along my business card.
What materials are you digging right now?
Right now I'm loving brass. It goes with everything! I have been using a lot of pyrite, Swarovksi crystal, and druzy agates with heavy brass chain, and I love pretty much every combo.
How would you recommend combining and layering your pieces?
I love seeing how other people style my pieces because they always do it in a way I would never think of, and it always looks amazing! I tend to wear all black all the time so wearing one of my large statement necklaces brings a little pop of color to my outfits. Having said that, I love seeing one of my bibs or a long layered piece with the perfect LBD or a great pair of leather pants with a simple top. But you can really wear my pieces with anything.
