Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Drybar opened its first Chicago location on Friday. This means two things for your holiday season. One: the stakes are higher for great-looking party hair (this place really does do a supreme job, so get bookin'). And two: you have a new source for last-minute gifts that will—wait for it—blow your gift-ees away. One such item: The Blowdry in a Box ($199).

Available at the Lincoln Park salon and also online (order today to get it shipped by Christmas), the kit contains all the basics for a D.I.Y. blow-out. There's "Happy Hour" Blowout Shampoo and Weightless Conditioner, The "Hot Toddy" Heat Protector Frizz Fighter, "The Chaser" Shine Cream, a round brush, and—most importantly—the Buttercup Blow Dryer.

We've been fascinated by this product ever since Drybar founder Alli Webb told us about its beyond-your-average-bathroom-product capabilities (think Nano Beads for sealed cuticles, conditioning technology, and more, er, mind-blowing stuff.)

One downside of a home blow-out: You'll have to supply your own chick flicks and champagne to totally recreate the Drybar experience. So if you're looking to do that, you can always pick up a $40 gift card for a styling service on site.
