Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
A sweet tipster recently let us know that Sugar Factory is opening a Chicagoland location soon. We checked in with the restaurant-slash-candy-shop's PR rep, and here's what were able to find out: Indeed, the Las Vegas-based chain will open an outlet in Rosemont next year.
At 8,000 square feet, the candy-filled space will have a look that the press release describes as "MTV meets Willy Wonka" (so, probably pretty understated, right?) The restaurant will serve everything from pancakes to burgers and the "King Kong" sundae, which has 24 scoops of ice cream and comes topped with swirly lollipops. There will also be a bar slinging candy-flavored martinis, a chocolate lounge, and—bada bing!—the retail area.
The store will offer a sampling of the brand's signature, Britney Spears-approved merchandise. Though we don't have an exact list of what will be available at the Chicagoland location, we can guess that there will be "Couture Pops" with glittery handles, Hello Kitty candy, sparkly t-shirts, and cupcake-shaped beanies.
A new Hermès, this is not, but we ask you: where else can you wander around and shop while sipping a smoking, lollipop-garnished cocktail?
