Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Late last night Alexis Cozzini, owner of Racked 38 Member SARCA, sent a letter to friends and supporters of the boutique explaining that the boutique has flooded. In the email, she writes that the flood was so massive that all merchandise has been ruined and the store will close for the foreseeable future to be gutted and rebuilt. No cause has yet been identified. Read her letter after the jump.
Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters of SARCA,It is with sadness that I am writing to inform you of SARCA's temporary closing.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, we incurred a flood so massive that we have been forced to shut down operations for the foreseeable future. We are still investigating the exact cause of the catastrophe, but the damage to the store was so impactful, that we were unable to salvage our inventory.
Please know that SARCA will reopen for business, but this will take some time as the store will need to be gutted and re-built. We have no estimated date at this time.
We are devastated by the loss, but will work tirelessly to bring SARCA back to Chicago, and be available to our clients. You have been there for us since the beginning and we can't thank you enough. We can assure you that we will be back, and better than ever!
