Welcome to Selling Stuff 101, a primer on the best local consignment and buy/sell/trade spots in Chicago.

Wicker Park may the unofficial headquarters for consignment stores, but Chicago's buy/sell/trade scene isn't limited to one 'hood. The North Side happens to be home to one of the city's most upscale names in consignment.

Elliot Consignment is special for a few reasons. For one thing, there are two North Side locations: one in Lakeview, the other in Lincoln Park. The store's other selling point? It doesn't just cater to the ladies. As the name might suggest, Elliot Consignment offers up plenty of items for men as well.

While the store has a no appointment needed policy, there are a few rules. This isn't a vintage store, which means items must be less than two years old and still in style and season. This is a high-end store—they won't accept items from places like Forever 21 or Old Navy. What they will accept are gently worn, clean items from brands Burberry, Alice and Olivia, Free People and J. Crew. A full list of acceptable designers can be found on the store's web site.
