Ikram in River North is known for stocking some of the most current and undiscovered designers out there. Even before being recognized by Vogue or Visionaire, Ikram has displaying their work for seasons. And last week, two of these designers flew in for a record breaking trunk show. Alexa Adams and Flora Gill of New York-based label Ohne Titel camped out in the boutique all day, tirelessly dressing client after client in Spring Summer and the samples for Fall Winter 2013.
Starting out the morning at 9AM the duo head to the boutique. Dressed head to toe in mixed seasons of their own label, they prepare themselves for what was one of the busiest days the boutique has seen this month.
Alexa was wearing a mesh dress that was three different colors of fabric; black white and nude. This style contoured her body--it was easy to see that this was a very athletic-inspired piece. Flora was wearing an turquoise ombre stripe shirt from the current season and an adjustable jacket that zips off half way up the back with a pair of classic black pants.
Around 1:30 in the afternoon Flora and Alexa head upstairs to the second level of Ikram for a lunch break with the boutique's owner, Ikram Goldman. While sipping fresh farm-to-table beet juice the trio talk shop and wax on their tasty late night adventure to Udupi in Little India on Devon the night before.
Both designers had the burger which Alexa says "was the best burger ever". Describing the cheese on the burger she gestures with her hand into the air suggesting that camembert may be the answer to the world's problems. Flora praised the "quarter inch of crema on her espresso. All three shared the brown butter raspberry tart for desert.
After lunch they get back to the racks downstairs. Describing their favorite looks from the new collection Alexa notes a look in the show that was entirely cream and the sweater that set the look off. The was inspired by an art show of an installation artist who created geometric patterns from woven twill tape. The designers used a knitted rib technique that looked like the twill tape. And at the same time they replicated that textural pattern in a print that went on a pair of easy pants.
The contoured and piped leather pieces in the new collection were also a favorite. The style gave a really strong body shape and the color stories only added to that. Black and white for a stark graphic and olive with black which is one of the strong color stories for fall.
After their day fitting Chicago's most stylish women in their genius collection of future knits, Flora, Alexa and Ikram host a dinner for long-time clients, some of whom wore pieces from Ohne Titel's first collection in 2006. And after dinner with a sigh of relief, but in classic Brooklyn style, they jump in a cab and finish with a nightcap at The Pump Room.
