Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Now that we've covered the top spots for a $20 outdoor workout, here are four that you can do—gratis.
31st ST. HARBOR -In only its second year, Chicago's premier boating event, the Chicago In-Water Boat Show (meaning the marine toys you're shopping are actually in the water) is THE place to be this June 13-16. The show returns to the brand new state-of-the-art marina – 31st Street Harbor with hundreds of the newest boats and marine accessories for sale, education, entertainment, and on-water activities—that's where it gets fun.
One of those activities is Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUP)! If you've seen people at the beach trying it out, this weekend of free demos and lessons on Stand-Up Paddleboarding from the experts is for you. Learn the basics, try out SUP Yoga, or learn about the emerging SUP racing world. Also, on Sunday, June 16 from 8AM-noon, check out a live SUP race – the Chicago In-Water SUP Challenge.
Stand-Up Paddleboarding not your thing? Other on-water activities at the Chicago In-Water Boat Show are kayaking, lily pad, banana boat rides, and water trampoline.
BUCKTOWN - Healthy sex starts with a healthy mind and body. Join g Boutique to quiet your mind and cultivate body awareness with free yoga this summer. Bring your mat to the shop the first Wednesday of every month at 9:15AM. If you don't have a mat or the suggested props, there will be extras for you to use. So if you want great sex, this is the 'g' spot you want to be—after all, the positions of the carnal classics should come with the greatest of ease.
MILLENNIUM PARK - If you can't make it to SELF magazine's Workout in The Park tomorrow, the Chicago Park District organizes free Millennium Park Workouts all summer long. They happen on the Great Lawn in front of the cray Frank Gehry Pritzker Pavilion every Saturday from June 8 through September 7. Classes range from Solstice Yoga to 7AM Tai Chi taught by the Chinese Gong Fu Institute to Zumba with music by The Rhythm Revolution Drummers.
OZ PARK -
Every Wednesday evening this Summer, Lululemon on Halsted is calling all yogis to center themselves in Oz Park in the heart of Lincoln Park. Starting at 7PM, just a stones throw away from the park's Dorothy statue (on the Webster Side of the park) join Lululemon's instructors for a relaxing sun salutation. Mats are available but yogis are encouraged to bring their own. It starts June 5 with Brent Holten and ends September 4 with Samson Frederick.
