Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Eccentric toy shops usually are outliers of the commonly traveled areas; Gold Coast, RiNo, and Lakeview, with a few notable exceptions: Rotofigi and Uncle Fun. Now the latest addition to our must-visit bucket list of outlying eccentric shops, has announced it's opening. DNA reports Loris Basso, a part-time bodybuilder, has opened Monster Island Toys, which specializes in Godzilla figurines, propaganda and paraphernalia imported from Japan.
Though the store is very heavy into the Godzilla stuff, though Loris also makes room on the shelves for other rare figurines like Ultraman, Scarface, Freddy Krueger, Herman Munster, and members of the band KISS.
