St. Tropez self-tanner and mitt, $40 at QVC

There's nothing I love more about summer than getting a deep, glowing tan. But of course I never get a real tan anymore because it's terrible for your skin, so these days it's all about about self-tanner for me.

I've tried many, many self-tanners in my day, and my favorite to date is St. Tropez tanning mousse. It comes with a mitt applicator, which saves your palms from stains and spreads the foamy stuff more evenly than any other tanner I've used. Plus, it's tinted, so you can see where you've applied it. You still might get a streak here or there, especially around the ankles if you're not diligent. But the color is rich and golden (not orange-y), the smell isn't super offensive, and it lasts several days, depending on how often and aggressively you shower. One $40 bottle will last you all summer, and it's well worth saving your skin from sun damage.
